Wake Up Call! – Living Thankfully

LIVING THANKFULLY

Living thankfully is a daily choice.

I try to live a life of thankfulness and gratitude but sometimes it doesn’t work quite that way! Grumbling, dissatisfaction or envy call me out and grab my attention.

Those times are an invitation to mindfully choose which energy and power I will welcome.

There are two tools I use to re-orient my life. I name the seven most important people in my life and tell a few of them why I am thankful for their presence in my life. I out the people who revel in privilege or complaint by naming them to myself.

As if seeing with new eyes I give a shout-out to thankfulness by verbally naming what I am grateful for. It is like a GPS guiding me back to where I choose to live.

Call-to-Action:

  • Be aware of the choices you choose to live by

  • Mindfully embrace gratitude and thankfulness each day

Notice how your life is enlivened by a path of thankfulness.

Wake Up Call! – From Your Heart

FROM YOUR HEART

Speaking from your heart expresses your engaged authentic self.

A friend of mine disturbed my day by saying, “When you speak from your heart the energy level and engagement is so different than when you are more cerebral.” That night as I prepared for two media interviews her words kept nagging at me.

I could have brushed off her observation but instead chose to pay attention to the truth she had spoken.

It’s easy for me to take refuge in the safe shelter of being cerebral. It’s a confining safety zone. I needed the disruption of being reminded that living and speaking from my heart space is a choice to be free.

The result was heartfelt and electric connection in the interviews. Will I gladly choose to speak from my heart today?

Call-to-Action:

  • Choose to speak from your heart

  • Offer thanks for the heart space connections that emerge

Notice the freedom and connection with others that speaking from your heart invites.

Wake Up Call – Kindness, Anger & Delight

KINDNESS, ANGER & DELIGHT

Kindness and righteous anger combined with delight are life-giving companions on your journey.

A friend of mine inspires me with his unfailing kindness and generosity of spirit to others. His righteous anger about acts that dehumanize others is visceral. These two truths about him are fed by his insatiable delight in life.

He reminds me that my choices are never just either/or. They are a mix of elements that fire my spirit.

When I choose kindness and generosity in my dealings with another we connect, affirming our need of each other. When that need is celebrated how can I be anything other than righteously angry when your humanity is assailed or questioned? But all of that is for naught when I forget the delight of each day.

The result of my friend’s inspiring practices is a reminder that I can choose to live in the equilibrium of kindness, generosity, righteous anger and delight. How will I choose today?

Call-to-Action:

  • Be aware of the responses and feelings that mark your day

  • Pay attention to their interconnectedness

  • Be open to how they feed your spirit

Notice how your awareness about the choices you face in engaging with life affect who you are.

Wake Up Call! – Unexpected Guides

UNEXPECTED GUIDES

I’m grateful for the unexpected people who mysteriously appear as guides in my life.

I was at the end of a three hour hike of some ancient caves when I realized that I was lost and could not find my way back to the trail. I was caught in a grove of trees not able to see a way out. The sun was beginning to set and I’d only seen two other people on the trail. I panicked.

Instead of dwelling with the panic I chose to do some breathing exercises and invite calm clarity.

There was a rustling among the trees and I called out. Much to my relief a hiker appeared and pointed me through the trees and back onto a trail.

I was reminded of the way in which the Universe provides the guides we need when we are open to their presence. Today I am open to what a loving Universe will provide.

Call-to-Action:

  • Be aware of your need of the guidance of others

  • Be open to those who appear as unexpected gifts

Notice how your connection with others shifts when you are ready to receive guidance.
