I recently found myself double-booked for the same timeframe by entirely separate, unrelated events which just happened to take place 50 yards from each other. I knew they were both to occur on the same day, but I expected they would be consecutive, not simultaneous. Imangine how stressed I could have felt when I found that the second one which I expected to be from 5ish to 7ish was actually from 4-6, right on top of the 3:30 – 5:30 event next door. Instead, I chose to focus on how lucky I was that the events were close by, how easy it would be to begin at one, move to the next and perhaps even travel back and forth a few times if need be. I chose to take a deep breath and find the place of gratitude to work from and it made all the difference. The 4-6 event is one in which my voluntary services were needed. The other event was obligatory but not one of need – there were many dozens of others to fill the needs there. It was not hard to choose where to spend the bulk of my time. At the end of the evening I was exhausted but not stressed.
